4. Monad – Sid was asked to do a card game that was “familiar but different”! Out of that puzzling paradox came this gem. Monad first appeared in the cassette type (aka “butterdish”) packaging containing a deck of special cards and a bunch of big circular black and white “Monads”. Sid remarked in a letter to 3M that when he opened the cassette box, a bunch of those Monads rolled on the floor! Unfortunately, not an uncommon occurrence, I’m afraid, which probably accounts for the appearance of the more familiar gamette style box. The real mystery is how “Infinite Plane” turned into Monad!
